First MF&TVV Updates For November 2007
Now Playing: The Michael In The Morning Show on Funlovin' WTIX-FM, 94.3 (New Orleans' Oldies Station!)

The first of November 2007 sees The MF&TVV's Halloween page replaced by the regular page (now bereft of the caption "CELEBRATING ITS ALUMINUM ANNIVERSARY ONLINE!"; the masthead remains, however), and a new Featured Monkees Episode Of The Week: No. 56, "Some Like It Lukewarm" (a.k.a. "The Band Contest") (prod. #4754, aired on NBC March 4 and August 19, 1968).

This Week's Monkees TV Almanac (10/28-11/3/07)

OCTOBER 28, 1972

The Monkees was preempted on ABC by a College Football Pre-Game Show.

OCTOBER 30, 1967

"Monkees Marooned"
(prod. #47??) first aired @ 7:30 p.m. (EST) on NBC as the 40th episode of The Monkees.

It was sponsored by Yardley Of London™, and the songs, produced by Chip Douglas, were “Daydream Believer” written by John Stewart and "What Am I Doing Hangin' 'Round" (in an alternate version with an extended fade) written by Michael Murphy.

Trivia Footnote: This was the last filmed episode of The Monkees to feature Michael Nesmith speaking with his old voice; he went to have a tonsillectomy right after "Monkees Marooned" wrapped.

OCTOBER 30, 1971

“I Was A Teenage Monster,” Episode No. 18 of The Monkees (prod. #47??, first aired on NBC January 16, 1967), was repeated @ noon (EST) on CBS (and just in time for Halloween, too!), with a new song added: "Good Clean Fun," written by Michael Nesmith.

OCTOBER 31, 1966

“Don't Look A Gift Horse In The Mouth”
(prod. #4708) first aired @ 7:30 p.m. (EST) on NBC as the 8th episode of The Monkees.

Slicker and Black Label by Yardley Of London™ were the sponsors, and all musical numbers written & produced by Michael Nesmith: “All The King’s Horses” & “Papa Gene’s Blues.”

Trivia Footnote: “Don't Look A Gift Horse In The Mouth” was the first official Monkees episode to be produced, directed by producer Bob Rafelson. He would go on to direct 5 further episodes of the series (Episode Nos. 3, “Monkee Versus Machine”, 5, “The Spy Who Came In From The Cool”, 17, “The Case Of The Missing Monkee”, 32, “The Monkees On Tour”, and 54, "The Monkees In Paris"), 2 of which he also wrote (#32, “The Monkees On Tour”, and 54, "The Monkees In Paris"), and, of course, he went on to direct (as well as write and produce with Jack Nicholson) his first movie: The Monkees' 1968 feature film HEAD.

OCTOBER 31, 1970

“The Monkees At The Movies”, Episode No. 31 of The Monkees (prod. #47??, first aired on NBC Apr. 17, 1967), was repeated @ 12:30 p.m. (EST) on CBS.

NOVEMBER 1, 1969

“The Monkees On The Line”, Episode No. 28 of The Monkees (prod. #47??, first aired on NBC March 27, 1967), was repeated @ noon (EST) on CBS, with a new song added: "Little Girl," written by Micky Dolenz.

Friday, October 24, 1997. A red-letter date in Internet and Monkees fan history.
Mood:  celebratory
Topic: Happy 10th, MF&TVV!

It was a full 31 years after “The Monkees In A Ghost Town” (prod. #4704) aired first-run on NBC as Episode No. 7 of The Monkees television series.

On the very afternoon of this date, the seeds of a new Monkees fansite were sown, and of course would fully blossom over the years.

I, Aaron Handy III, a Commercial Art/Visual Communications major at Delgado Community College, armed myself with a free account @ Tripod, settled down in in a computer lab, took keyboard in hand and gave life to The Monkees Film & TV Vault, a Monkees fan page (loosely patterned after Louis Colli's The Monkees Music Vault) which is a comprehensive guide to The Monkees' filmed work, on TV and the big screen, the product of 10+ long years' worth of research, and (for my money) the first-ever fully detailed account of The Monkees' film and television history. And today marks a pivotal, important, and happy event for the site: its Aluminum Anniversary (10 years!!) online!A deeply felt thanks to all of you, for all your love, support, and many invaluable contributions which has guaranteed The Monkees Film & TV Vault's impressive decade on The World Wide Web. 10 years could not have been possible without your great patronage.

Not long after The Monkees Film & TV Vault came into being, I had a disclaimer placed under the masthead on the front page which read "Quite Arguably THE BIGGEST Monkees Filmography In History!!!" I have since removed it, as it made me sound conceited. But, interestingly enough, after 10 years' worth of numerous updates, contributions, additions, revisions and deletions down the line, The Monkees Film & TV Vault has unwittingly lived up to that disclaimer in spades. (Maybe I should think of restoring it? Nah...)

Thanks again, and Monkeemania forever!

This Week's Monkees TV Almanac (10/21-27/07)
Mood:  celebratory
Now Playing: Breakfast With The Beatles on WTIX-FM

OCTOBER 21, 1972

“Monkee Versus Machine”, Episode No. 3 of The Monkees (prod. #4700, aired on NBC September 26, 1966 and May 22, 1967), was repeated @ 1:00 P.M. (EDT) on ABC.

OCTOBER 23, 1967

"Hillbilly Honeymoon" (a.k.a. "Double Barrell Shotgun Wedding")
(prod. #47??) first aired @ 7:30 p.m. (EDT) on NBC as the 39th episode of The Monkees.

The sponsor of the week was Kellogg’s™, and the song of the week was “Papa Gene’s Blues”, written & produced by Michael Nesmith. This was the first episode of The Monkees TV series to be filmed after The Monkees completed their summer tour, as well as the episode which introduced the “new-look” Monkees, in which case they employed love beads, shades, paisley gear, Indian boots, and, in Micky’s case, a huge head of curly Afro hair. As production on the show's second season progressed, Michael would also adapt to the "new-look" Monkees phase by abandoning his omnipresent wool hat in favor of shades and neckties.

OCTOBER 23, 1971

"Art For Monkee's Sake", Episode No. 37 of The Monkees (prod. #4744, aired on NBC October 9, 1967 and April 22, 1968), was repeated @ noon (EDT) on CBS.

OCTOBER 24, 1966

“The Monkees In A Ghost Town”
(prod. #4704) first aired @ 7:30 p.m. (EDT) on NBC as the 7th episode of The Monkees.

The sponsor of the week was Kellogg’s™, and the musical numbers of the week were "Papa Gene's Blues" written & produced by Michael Nesmith, and "Tomorrow's Gonna Be Another Day" written by Tommy Boyce & Steve Venet and produced by Boyce & Bobby Hart.

OCTOBER 24, 1970

"Art For Monkee's Sake", Episode No. 37 of The Monkees (prod. #47??, aired on NBC October 9, 1967 and April 22, 1968), was repeated @ 12:30 p.m. (EDT) on CBS. (Almost a full year later, The Eye Network would repeat it again, @ noon!)

OCTOBER 25, 1969

“Monkee See, Monkee Die”, Episode No. 2 of The Monkees (prod. #4705, aired on NBC September 19, 1966 and May 1, 1967), was repeated @ noon (EDT) on CBS.
